Teaching Artist
Hey there! I’m Renato—an Atlanta area-based alternative photographer and high school art teacher passionate about exploring ideas of faith and masculinity through the lens of a Christian artist. By collecting and observing themes in my local context, I design experiences to facilitate conversations through my art, teaching, and lifestyle practices.
My work is centered around light as a metaphor for spirituality, which also functions physically as a tactile process of making photographs. I primarily focus on analog photographic interpretations such as large format, pinhole photography, and photo as object understandings combining materials such as fiber, clay, and found items. In my photo work, you will typically see an anonymous figure, usually male, as the main catalyst of the narrative I mean to communicate.
So where do you fit in? My curated and scholarly approach is designed to love, challenge, expose, refine, and enrich. The big picture for my work is to give people a space to observe, ponder, and question. Won’t you join in the conversation?
“And yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. We all are formed by your hand.”
