About Me

Renato Britto Ferreira earned his BFA in Photography and his BFA in Art Education from the University of Georgia, both his MA and his Specialists in Curriculum and Instruction at Piedmont University and is currently working on his EdD in Curriculum and Instruction also at Piedmont University; projected to be completed in the summer of 2023. Prior to holding the department head position at the School of the Arts at Central Gwinnett High School, Renato taught in Columbus, Georgia at the Rainey-McCullers School of the Arts and in elementary visual arts at Fowler Drive Elementry School in Athens-Clark County prior to that. While working in Athens, he met his wife, Elizabeth Ferreira. Renato is not only an art educator, but also a working artist, having displayed pieces in exhibitions at the Columbus Museum of Art, Atlanta High Museum of Art, and the Athens Lyndon House annual juried exhibition, where he was awarded the L. David Dwinell Photography Award. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, participating in any kind of physical activity, and watching the latest Marvel movie or TV show with his wife.

“A teaching artist is a practicing professional artist/designer with the complementary skills of an educator, who can effectively engage a wide range of people in learning experiences in and through the arts.”
